Heavy Body Acrylics

Heavy Body Acrylics have a thicker consistency and viscosity. These acrylics are ideal if you want to add raised areas of interest such as some rocks in the foreground. You can achieve crisp brush strokes where the brush marks are visible.

Another great use for this type of acrylic is if you like (or want to try) working with a palette knife. This can be very exciting and create a fantastic textural painting. This viscosity of acrylics are especially good when doing 'impasto' painting. This is where an area of a painting is raised, giving greater texture and form.

Areas of impasto hold the light better and so are often used in small areas to add highlights. Don't overuse this technique or they will dominate the painting.

Heavy body acrylics and a whole range of materials can be discovered on line.
